How to use this site
The best place to start is to search for a home. If we have the information on file, you will be able to see how that home's utility consumption compares to its neighborhood, similarly sized homes, and Gainesville as a whole.
Is your home the greenest in the neighborhood?
Gainesville Green was created by:
- Acceleration.Net
- International Carbon Bank and Exchange (ICBE)
- University of Florida's Program for Resource Efficient Communities (PREC)
Gainesville Green matches consumption data from Gainesville Regional Utilities (GRU) with home information from the Alachua County Property Appraiser. Using this public information, we can make apples-to-apples comparisons between different homes in Gainesville, using methods under development by the building scientists at PREC.
Our goal
is to provide Gainesville with a simple tool to help visualize and
track energy usage. It is our hope that making this data
available to consumers in a transparent way, will enable individuals
to make better decisions about their utility usage. We also aim to offer an easy way
for renters and home buyers to evaluate the operating costs of a potential home.
Our energy report will let you view utility usage for many homes in Gainesville, and we're working hard to get more data available. The best place to start is to search for home.
Gainesville-green.com is an EECBG compatible program promoting energy efficiency in the building sector with a social science approach. In addition to the public component on display here, there is a vast database capable of tracking DSM efficacy, monitoring weatherization efforts, energy savings per dollar invested, and estimated greenhouse gas reductions.
